All dancers should have their hair pulled back out of their faces in either the style specified by the instructor or polled/clipped out of the way.
Hair Tips & Tricks:
- Get hair wet with a spray water bottle to help team fly-aways while styling hair.
- For dancers with thick hair double up on hair ties to make sure hair is secure put extra bobby pins in your hair accessories even if the hair accessory has an attached comb or clip to to make sure they don’t fall out on stage.
- Hair spray your hair extra well where you will have hair accessory to ensure your hair stays in place if you have a quick change.
Tools We Recommend:
- Comb
- Wide bristle brush (for detangling)
- Thick, bristle brush (for smoothing)-This is very important for a smooth, hairstyle!
- Hair ties that match hair color
- Bobby pins (We recommend getting both regular and large if your hair is thicker)
- Hair pins. These are great for thick hair as well.
- Hair spray {aerosol works best)
- Gel
- Spray water bottle
- Hairnet that matches hair color
- Clips/barrettes that match the dancers hair color if they have shorter pieces of hair
Make up for the stage all dancers should wear make up to not be washed out by the stage/photography lights.
Recommendations for older dancers:
- Foundation that matches skin tone
- Concealer that matches skin tone
- Sponge/brush for foundation
- Setting powder
- Blush
- Neutral color eye shadow
- Black mascara
- Black eyeliner
- Eyebrow gel/pencil
- Fake eyelashes (optional)
- Red/berry colored lipstick
Recommendation for younger dancers:
- Blush
- Light eye make up
- Tinted Chapstick
Recommendations for boys and those less experienced with make up:
- Blush
- Light eye make up
- Tinted Chapstick
- All students should arrive in their costumes with their hair and make up complete.
- All students will be dropped off at the check-in table at the bottom of the ramp by the stage door.
- All dancers in the show should be backstage :
45 minutes before the shows start if they are in Act 1
30 minutes before the show if they are in Act 2 - Please, drop your dancer off with only the necessary items (shoes, accessories, water bottle). We will have a live stream of the show, playing and coloring activities for them during the show.
- Dancers in our Pre-Ballet/Tap/Tumbling and Tiny Tutus in the 1st act can be picked up during Intermission in the lobby to watch the second act (During the Saturday 1 PM show only).
- Dancers under 6yr with multiple dances per show can have a parent return only during intermission to help them change costumes.
- If you’re dancer has 2 or more dances in an act, please make sure that you drop them off with all the items they need at the check-in table and our backstage staff/older dancers will assist them in changing costumes.
- All dancers 6yr and up will be backstage for their entire show.
- Takeoff all nail polish on fingers and toes.
- Take off all jewelry (necklaces, bracelets rings, dangling earrings (simple stud is okay))
- Wear a large T-shirt or button up jacket over your costume when you arrive at the theater. This will ensure that your costume is ready for the stage.
- Don’t forget all the dance shoes you will need for your dances.
- If you send your dancer with a water bottle during the show, make sure it is leak-proof and is labeled with your dancers name.
- Practice your full hair, and make up for dress rehearsal!
